Detroit-style pizza joint to replace Old Town Alexandria’s Pizzeria Paradiso

Pizza is returning to 124 King St. in Old Town Alexandria.

The former Pizzeria Paradiso space will be filled by Emmy Squared, a Detroit-style pizza and burger joint, restaurant co-owner Howard Greenstone confirmed Thursday. He hopes to open in the spring or summer 2021, filling the 3,378-square-foot space with roughly 52 seats at tables and another 43 at the bar.

Pizzeria Paradiso officially shuttered earlier this month after roughly a decade. Greenstone, based in Nashville, Tennessee, said he has a good relationship with building owner Asana Partners LLC, and when he got word the space had opened up he jumped at the opportunity to land a second-generation pizza operation.

鈥淲hen this came up, they thought of me,鈥 said Greenstone, the former owner of the Rosa Mexicano restaurants. 鈥淚 hopped in my car. I drove eight hours to see it.鈥

Emmy Squared features a square Detroit-style pizza, which Greenstone described as 鈥渘ot deep dish, but thicker and lighter.鈥 Its burger, meanwhile,鈥
