WASHINGTON 鈥� An 81-year-old woman died and several other people are fighting critical injuries following a head-on collision in Annapolis, Maryland, Sunday afternoon.
Officers responded to a multi-vehicle crash shortly before 2 p.m. in the 300 block of Busch鈥檚 Frontage Road, which is just off eastbound U.S. Route 50 near the Chesapeake Bay Bridge.
Anne Arundel police said Christopher Dillehunt, 27, of Queenstown, Maryland was driving a Ford Taurus eastbound on Busch’s Frontage Road 鈥渁t a high rate of speed鈥� when the vehicle crossed the centerline and sideswiped a Toyota Camry. The Ford Taurus then rotated and was T-boned by a Ford F-150.
Police said heroin use was a contributing factor to the crash.
鈥淲e had people that were trapped in their vehicles, so the firefighters had to cut them from the vehicles,鈥� said Lt. Jennifer McKee with Anne Arundel County Fire Department.
Dillehunt and the other passenger of the Taurus, 24-year-old Tammy Lawson, of Queenstown, as well as the driver of the Camry, 81-year-old Laurel Zeiler, of Arnold, Maryland were airlifted to University of Maryland鈥檚 Shock Trauma in Baltimore with life-threatening injuries.
Zeiler later died of her injuries.
All other occupants were taken to the Anne Arundel Medical Center with minor injuries.
