WASHINGTON 鈥� Chick-fil-A just rolled out a gluten-free bun, but customers will pay more for it and they’ll have to assemble their own sandwich.
After putting the gluten-free bun on the menu in some test markets, Chick-fil-A now offers the option at locations across the country.
The bun comes individually packaged to prevent cross-contamination because Chick-fil-A kitchens are not gluten-free, and will come along side other sandwich ingredients.
The new bun has 150 calories and costs an additional $1.15.
“We heard positive feedback in test markets that the bun tastes better than some other gluten-free breads. That’s because instead of rice flour, we’ve made the bun with more premium ingredients like quinoa and amaranth,” said Leslie Neslage, senior consultant of menu development at Chick-fil-A.
Chick-fil-A has more than 2,100 restaurants, including more than a dozen in the D.C. region.
