WASHINGTON 鈥 Developer Forest City, in the midst of a two-year redevelopment of the Ballston Common Mall, has announced the first of what will be 18 food vendors in the development鈥檚 new food hall.
Quarter Market Food Hall, a 25,000-square-foot food emporium, will be one of the largest food halls in the D.C. area and will serve as the anchor to the Ballston Quarter project.
鈥淨uarter Market will bring together some of the District鈥檚 most original, best-in-class food operators, giving them the opportunity to tap into the incredible market already established in Arlington,鈥 said Deborah Ratner Salzberg, president of Forest City Washington.
鈥淥nce opened, the food hall will truly re-energize Northern Virginia鈥檚 food scene, allowing residents to enjoy the region鈥檚 most beloved restaurants,” she said.
The first nine restaurants announced for Quarter Market, which is scheduled to open in September 2018, are:
- Bartaco, a modern Mexican restaurant whose sister restaurant is Barcelona Wine Bar, with restaurants on Wisconsin Avenue in the District鈥檚 Cathedral Heights neighborhood and on 14th Street.
- Buredo, with burrito-sized sushi rolls and Asian-inspired salads.
- Cucina Al Volo, a rustic casual Italian eatery,聽with other locations in Union Market and Adams Morgan.
- Ice Cream Jubilee, voted one of the 鈥淏est Ice Cream Shops in America鈥 by Food & Wine Magazine.
- Mi & Yu Noodle Bar, a Baltimore-based fast casual noodle bar with two locations in the District.
- Pinch Dumplings, which has a food stand at Nationals Park, serves traditional Chinese dumplings.
- Rice Crook, which serves Korean rice bowls.
- Swizzler, a D.C. food truck known for its corkscrew-shaped hot dogs, will open its first brick and mortar location.
- Timber Pizza Co., recently named one of the 鈥50 Best New Restaurants in America鈥 by Bon Appetit, serves Neapolitan-style wood-fired pizzas.
Nine other food vendors will be announced in the coming months, Forest City said.
The Quarter Market Food Hall will include a 5,000-square-foot plaza with outdoor patio space and outdoor communal seating.
The announcement of The Quarter Market Food Hall鈥檚 first tenants comes a day after celebrity D.C. chef Mike Isabella鈥檚 41,000-square-foot food hall, Isabella Eatery, opened with the first of what will be nine restaurants on the third floor of Tysons Galleria.
Forest City鈥檚 850,000-square-foot redevelopment of Ballston Common as Ballston Quarter includes a complete overhaul of the mall itself, in addition to a new 22-story residential building.
