Palomar hotel in Dupont Circle to drop Kimpton flag, reopen under new management

The Kimpton Palomar Washington D.C. will drop the Kimpton brand and get a new name and new management before the end of 2020.

Starting Dec. 1, the Palomar will be known as the Royal Sonesta Washington D.C. Dupont Circle. Newton, Massachusetts-based Service Properties Trust, which acquired the 335-room hotel for $141.5 million in 2019, owns a stake in Sonesta International Hotels Corp.

Sonesta will take over the management and branding from InterContinental Hotels Group, which owns Kimpton. It appears the in-house restaurant, Urbana, will remain. IHG transferred the management for 103 of its hotels to Sonesta after striking a deal with Service Properties Trust earlier this year. Sonesta will now manage and brand 22 full-service and 81 extended-stay former IHG hotels in places such as the District, Ontario, Canada and Puerto Rico.
