WASHINGTON — With less than a聽month before聽Christmas, the National Retail Federation (NFR) is out with this year’s top toys list, showing what kids want and what adults are buying this holiday season.
For 2015, 聽the classics are back, and Star Wars mania — thanks to the upcoming release of the new Star Wars movie, and accompanying merchandise — is on the minds of both boys and girls this Christmas.
Number one on the boy’s list, hands down, is Legos, followed by Star Wars toys in the number two spot. Last year, Star Wars was on the boys’ list at number 15.
Some 12.2 percent of parents surveyed say they plan to buy Legos for their for boys this shopping season. Another 11.7 percent say they will buy Star Wars toys for their boys and 1.9 percent say they will by Star Wars toys for their girls.
Also in the top ten for boys, video games, Hot Wheels, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Nerf and Marvel action figures.
For the girls, Barbie is back. She is tops the list, beating out Disney’s Frozen characters. Last year Frozen was number one, but this year it takes the number two spot.
According to the NFR survey, 21.2 percent of parents say they will buy a Barbie for that little girl on their list, and 13 percent say they will buy Frozen related toys.
American Girl, My Little Pony, Legos, Disney Princess and Star Wars are also on the girls’ top ten list.
The National Retail Federation (NRF) 2015 Holiday spending survey shows that 41.2 percent of shoppers say they will be buying toys during the holiday season.
The survey, which is designed to gauge consumer behavior and shopping trends, polled 7,172 consumers between November 3-10, 2015. The poll has a margin of error plus or minus 1.2 percentage points.
