WASHINGTON —聽Kraft Heinz Company is voluntarily recalling聽Kraft Singles due to a choking hazard caused by聽faulty packing聽on some of the slices, the聽U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced Friday.
A thin strip on the the packaging film of the individually wrapped slices can stick聽to the cheese聽after the wrapper has been removed, which聽creates the risk.
The FDA said the recall applies to 3- and 4-pound sizes of Kraft Singles American and White American pasteurized prepared cheese product with聽expiration dates between Dec. 29, 2015聽and Jan. 14, 2016 and a聽manufacturing code of S54 or S55.
There have been 10 consumer complaints 聽about the packaging, including three reports of consumers choking.聽Approximately 36,000 cases of the recalled product were shipped by Kraft Heinz to retailers in the U.S., Puerto Rico and Grand Cayman,聽according to the FDA.
