Accused killer in D.C. mansion murders in court

WASHINGTON 鈥斅燭he only person accused in the murder of the Savopoulos family of D.C. was back in court Thursday.

Daron Wint of Lanham, Maryland faces one count of first-degree murder.

Investigators believe Wint held the family and a housekeeper聽captive in their own home on Woodland Drive, demanded聽$40,000 in ransom, killed them and set the house on fire back in May.

The bodies of Savvas Savopoulos, 46; his wife, Amy Savopoulos, 47; their 10-year-old son, Philip; and housekeeper Veralicia Figueroa, 57, were discovered May 14.

Little has changed since Wint’s arrest.

Police continue to investigate, believing there are more suspects, however, there haven’t been many updates from detectives.

The Savopoulos family home, damaged by fire, sold for roughly $3 million in November.

Wint was in court for a felony status conference. He is still being held without bond.

Wint is expect to be back in court Feb. 19, 2016 for his arraignment.
