WASHINGTON — D.C. Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton has responded to recent criticism from a colleague who called for the city鈥檚 economic downturn on Twitter this week.
Rep. Rod Blum, R-Iowa, tweeted a photo of cranes doing construction work along D.C.鈥檚 Southwest Waterfront, and claimed the city was 鈥渂eing built on the backs of U.S. taxpayers.鈥
鈥淒.C. needs a recession,鈥 . Blum in October.
Norton fired back on C-SPAN鈥檚 鈥淲ashington Journal.鈥
“Federal taxpayers have nothing to do with the boom in Washington,” she said in response to Blum鈥檚 recent comment. “Whatever you see in Washington comes out of my pocket, not your pocket as a federal taxpayer.”
Norton then criticized Blum on Twitter, saying local tax dollars fuel D.C.鈥檚 economic growth.
Blum鈥檚 office could not be reached for comment.
