WASHINGTON 鈥� Police are asking the public’s help in finding a white four-door Hyundai Accent that they say fled the scene of a fatal double shooting on May 3 in Southeast D.C.
Around 5 p.m. on Thursday, May 3, a white sedan pulled next to another vehicle in the 3700 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Southeast and opened fire on a man and woman inside.
A nearby surveillance camera captured a photo of the Hyundai, which police describe as a vehicle of interest.
“It looked like a black male, who was wearing a white T-shirt, was the passenger in that vehicle and that’s all we have at this point in regards to that investigation,” said D.C. Police Chief Peter 海角社区appham at a news conference on Friday.
Police believe the shooting was a targeted attack.
The victims were identified as 23-year-old Mecca India Tyshea Gravette and 25-year-old Sukarno Turner, both of D.C. Police have not released any additional details about the nature of the victims鈥� relationship.
At a news conference on Friday, 海角社区appham was asked about Turner being named in the indictment of a charged with murder.
While 海角社区appham did not respond about Turner specifically, he did say the police try to provide protection.
“If we think that someone might be in jeopardy as a result of information that we receive, will most certainly reach out to those folks to make sure that we provide them safety,” 海角社区appham said. “We do that on a frequent basis.”
海角社区appham also addressed two other people who have arrest warrants related to that case, but are still at large.
“I believe that they know they’re wanted and we’re actively looking for them,” 海角社区appham said. “Maybe the safest place for them would be in our custody at this point.”
