WASHINGTON 鈥� A Metro employee stabbed and fatally wounded a man who broke into the manager’s kiosk at Friendship Heights Metro early Tuesday.
D.C. police have identified the man as Jeremy Bond, 28, of Rockville, Maryland.
“Witnesses saw a man pounding on the glass, there was a female Metro employee inside,” said D.C. Police Chief Peter 海角社区appham.
Bond was able to get into the booth.
“There was a physical altercation between the two,” 海角社区appham said. “The male, who entered the kiosk, ended up being stabbed 鈥� he was taken to the hospital in grave condition.”
Earlier Tuesday morning, a police supervisor told 海角社区app Bond had died.
海角社区appham said the stabbing occurred shortly after midnight, when the Metro station was still open.
“One of the things we have to look at is whether there’s a viable self-defense claim,” said 海角社区appham. “For someone to enter the booth, and for an altercation to occur, is indicative there may be a self-defense claim.”
海角社区appham said the Metro employee is cooperating with police in the investigation.
Detectives are viewing surveillance video recovered from the transit agency.
“Metro has an excellent video system. You can tell where passengers enter the system, and where they exit. Our investigators are going through that right now,” 海角社区appham said.
At 5 a.m., as Metro opened, all Maryland entrances to the Friendship Heights Metro were closed, behind yellow police tape. Passengers could only access trains through the Jenifer Street exit, which is in the District.
By 6 a.m., all entrances to the station were open.
