DC’s 11th Street Bridge reopens after jackknifed tractor-trailer, fuel spill

The inbound 11th Street Bridge across Southeast D.C.’s Anacostia River was closed for several hours before dawn Tuesday due to a serious crash and fuel spill from a jackknifed tractor-trailer.

The 海角社区app Traffic Center reports a tractor-trailer hit the Jersey wall before 3 a.m. and leaked fuel from a ruptured saddle tank. Using a heavy-duty tow, crews worked to clear the crash for the next four hours.

A District Department of Transportation spokesman said no fuel spilled into the river.

District traffic officials report all westbound lanes of I-695 at I-295 reopened to traffic around 7 a.m.

Downtown-bound commuters using the nearby Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge as an alternative route should expect residual delays due to congestion.
