WASHINGTON 鈥 After comments from Liberty University鈥檚 leader about guns and Muslims, nine of the Fairfax County School Board鈥檚 12 members want the Virginia High School League to stop having events there.
The nine members of the board, including the chair and vice chair, sent a letter Thursday to the league鈥檚 executive committee outlining their concern over comments by Chancellor Jerry Falwell Jr. in December about obtaining guns.
鈥淲e could end those Muslims before they walked in 鈥 let鈥檚 teach them a lesson if they ever show up here,鈥 is the quote the letter cites as deeply disturbing.
The school board members say they 鈥渟tand in solidarity鈥 with the Fairfax County students who boycotted the state debate championship last weekend.
鈥淎t the same time, we find it unfair that our students were put in the position of forsaking their participation in a state championship,鈥 the letter said.
The letter is signed by Ryan McElveen, Ilryong Moon, Megan McLaughlin, Jane Strauss, Pat Hynes, Tamara Kaufax, Sandy Evans, Karen Corbett Sanders and Dalia Palchik.
