Police: Pedestrian dies after hit by patrol car in Kingstowne

WASHINGTON —聽A man was struck and killed by a police car on Beulah Street in Kingstowne聽on Saturday night, according to police.

Fairfax County police say a marked聽patrol car was traveling north聽on Beulah Street, near Old Beulah Street, around 11 p.m. That’s when 26-year-old Jeffrey Aguilar of Alexandria stepped into the roadway, against the green light.

Citing witness accounts, police said Aguilar聽was dressed in dark-colored clothing in heavy rain.

鈥淯nable to avoid a collision, the police cruiser struck the pedestrian,鈥 police said in a news release Sunday morning.

Police said the officer immediately stopped, reported the incident to dispatch, and requested an ambulance. 聽Aguilar was taken聽to Inova Franconia-Springfield HealthPlex, where he died 聽at 11:44 p.m. The officer did not require medical attention.

At a press conference Sunday, Fairfax County Police Chief聽Edwin C. Roessler Jr.聽offered his condolences to聽Aguilar’s family.

The officer involved, who has not been identified, had been with the department for two years and was assigned to the patrol squad at the Franconia District Station, Roessler said.

The officer has been placed on paid administrative leave, Roessler said.

Investigators determined that speed and alcohol were not factors in crash.
