WASHINGTON 鈥� A聽half-dozen聽instances of shootings聽into homes and cars in June聽in various parts of Fairfax County, Virginia, are forensically linked, the police say.
鈥淔or this many to be linked, it is definitely a concern,” said聽Fairfax County Police Officer Tawny Wright.
The details, courtesy of Fairfax County Crime Solvers, with the dates and times they were reported:
- June 3, at聽11:30 p.m.: Bullet holes were found in vehicle聽in the 6500 block of Virginia Hills Avenue, Alexandria.
- June 4, at聽聽6:20 p.m.: A bullet struck a car聽in the 6500 block of Rose Hill Drive, Alexandria.
- June 6, at聽12:50 p.m.: A bullet struck a window of a home in the 8000 block of West Boulevard Drive, Alexandria. The police think it happened聽on June 4 or 5, between 8 p.m. and 11 p.m., because that’s when they got reports of suspicious noises.
- June 6 at聽6:40 p.m.: A bullet struck a truck engine聽in the 6500 block of Hackberry Street, Springfield.
And on June 13, the police determined that two shootings at cars on Old Dominion Drive on the night of June 11聽.
Police say there have been no reports of anyone getting hurt, but they want to聽get the shooter or shooters off the street.
鈥淔or someone to be firing shots at cars, if even the cars are empty and there doesn’t seem to be anyone around,鈥� Wright said, 鈥淵ou never know when there could be聽someone or where those bullets are gonna (sic) go, and somebody could get hurt.”
Police聽are leaning on the public for help,聽especially since they have no suspects at this point.
鈥淲e are asking for the public’s assistance in trying to collect any information聽that could lead to the identity of the suspect or suspects in this case.”
Fairfax County Crime Solvers made the shootings the for September, and a $1,000 reward is being offered.
“They are guaranteed to remain anonymous and this case was made a ‘Case聽of the Month’ and so it’s guaranteed a $1,000 cash reward,” Wright said.

Similar shootings are happening聽in nearby聽Prince William County, where at least 18 homes have been聽fired at since January, sometimes while residents were聽inside.
