WASHINGTON 鈥� A woman in Fairfax County was killed Tuesday when she was hit by a pickup truck while standing by her mailbox.
The Fairfax County police said in a statement that Glenda Quiroz, 46, was at her mailbox in the 7000 block of Beulah Street, in the Alexandria area, at about 2:45 p.m. when the driver of a 2013 Nissan Frontier headed southbound past the Manchester Lakes shopping center had what the police call 鈥渁 possible medical emergency鈥� and lost control.
He went off the road and back on, hit Quiroz and came to a stop a bit further down the road.
Quiroz was pronounced dead at the scene; the driver was taken to a hospital in what Officer Mike Crutchman called 鈥渓ife-threatening condition鈥� caused by 鈥渁 different medical emergency.鈥�
