Michelin Guide comes to DC, recognizes 19 restaurants on Bib Gourmand list

WASHINGTON 鈥 Michelin will release聽its long-awaited Guide to D.C. restaurants on Oct. 13, but its inspectors are already giving Washingtonians a taste of what鈥檚 to come.

On Oct. 6, Michelin published its Bib Gourmand picks for D.C. 鈥 basically the Guide鈥檚 version of a 鈥渂est cheap eats鈥 list. In addition to quality food and experience, Bib Gourmand selections must have menu items that offer two courses and a glass of wine or dessert for $40 or less (tax and gratuity not included).

Nineteen restaurants 鈥 with cuisines ranging from Filipino to Turkish 鈥 made the list, including four from D.C.鈥檚 darling chef Jos茅 Andr茅s.

A Michelin states: 鈥淢ost telling about the value of these selections is the fact that they are the restaurants that the Michelin inspectors themselves frequent when dining off the clock.鈥

Restaurants that are awarded stars in the Michelin Guide, coming next week, are reviewed by trained anonymous inspectors and tend to be more formal and more expensive than those on the Bib Gourmand list.

When D.C. gets its guide next week, it will be the fourth American city to do so, following New York, San Francisco and Chicago.
