Flu-like illness forces visitor restrictions at Inova hospitals

WASHINGTON聽鈥 Inova Alexandria Hospital and Inova Loudoun Hospital are restricting visitors because the hospitals have seen an increase in a flu-like illness.

鈥淭hese temporary measures will help protect against influenza infection of the most vulnerable among us, including inpatients with compromised immune systems as well as our caregivers,鈥 says Inova鈥檚 Chief Medical Officer Dr. Loring Flint, in a news release.

鈥淲e appreciate everyone鈥檚 consideration and cooperation as, together, we work to assure the health and safety of our community during flu season.鈥

Here are the restrictions Inova has put in place:

  • No visitors under 16.
  • No visitors with any symptoms of influenza-like illness.
  • No more than two visitors.
  • The hospital may issue visitors masks for use while visiting, and visitors will be asked to wash their hands frequently.
  • Additional measures may apply for the Women鈥檚 and Children鈥檚 Units as well as Adult Critical Care, and Oncology patients.

The restrictions do not apply to patient care companions.
