Collections sites taking unused prescriptions Saturday

WASHINGTON 鈥斅營t’s a great time to get rid of prescription drugs you are no longer using.聽Saturday is National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day.

The event runs from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at collection sites nationwide, many of which are police stations and sheriff’s offices.

The Drug Enforcement Administration said聽it is very important to get old prescription medications out of medicine cabinets, where young people can get easy access to them.

Results from聽the , which were released last month, showed 6.4 million Americans ages 12 and up abuse prescription drugs.

The DEA said聽during the last national take-back event in April, a staggering 893,000 pounds of prescription drugs were collected. That’s about 447 tons.
