Truck driver accused of punch that caused co-worker’s death is indicted

WASHINGTON 鈥斅燗 grand jury in Howard County indicted a 63-year-old聽concrete truck driver on a manslaughter charge after prosecutors said he caused his co-worker’s death.

Howard County prosecutors said Byron Powers of Severn, Maryland, got into an argument with a co-worker, 16 years his junior, over where they parked their work trucks back in July.

The quarrel escalated, and Powers allegedly struck Brian Gordon, 47, just once with his hand, but prosecutors said that blow caused Gordon to fall and hit his head.

After being treated at the hospital, Gordon eventually was transferred to a long-term care facility. The father of three died from his injuries on New Year’s Day,聽.

Powers now faces charges of involuntary manslaughter and second-degree assault, according to court documents.

A judge released Powers on his own recognizance after a bail review Jan. 12.
