LOS ANGELES (AP) 鈥� Albums and songs from and are joining America鈥檚 audio canon.
The new inductees into the at the include Swift鈥檚 blockbuster 2014 pop album 鈥�1989,鈥� Beyonc茅鈥檚 era-defining 2008 anthem 鈥淪ingle Ladies (Put a Ring on It),鈥� Khan鈥檚 genre-blending hit 鈥淚 Feel for You,鈥� emotional ballad 鈥淕o Rest High on That Mountain鈥� and The Go-Go鈥檚 groundbreaking debut album 鈥淏eauty and the Beat.鈥�
They were among the 25 recordings entering the archive in the class of 2026, acting Librarian of Congress Robert Newlen announced Thursday. The selections were chosen for their 鈥渃ultural, historical or aesthetic importance in the nation鈥檚 recorded sound heritage.鈥�
鈥淢usic and recorded sound are essential, wonderful parts of our daily lives and our national heritage,鈥� Newlen said in a statement. 鈥淭he National Recording Registry works to preserve our national playlist for generations to come.鈥�
Other recordings entering the registry include groundbreaking country crossover album 鈥淢odern Sounds in Country and Western Music,鈥� 鈥淩umor Has It,鈥� Rosanne Cash鈥檚 鈥淭he Wheel鈥� and Weezer鈥檚 self-titled debut known as 鈥淭he Blue Album.鈥�
Classic singles from and the Pips, The Byrds, Jos茅 Feliciano and Paul Anka also earned inclusion.
Among the more unconventional selections are the soundtrack to the influential 1993 video game “Doom” and the radio broadcast of 鈥淭he Fight of the Century,鈥� the legendary 1971 heavyweight boxing match between Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier.
The oldest recording in this year鈥檚 class is Spike Jones and His City Slickers鈥� 1944 single 鈥淐ocktails for Two.鈥� The newest is Swift鈥檚 鈥�1989.鈥�
This year also marks the first recordings by Swift and Beyonc茅 selected for the registry. The Library of Congress said more than 3,000 public nominations were submitted for consideration this year.
