WASHINGTON — For the second year in a row, murders in D.C. and Prince George’s County have basically remained the same — but the聽2014 numbers reveal聽a disturbing trend, according to
There is a higher number of domestic violence victims in D.C. and Prince George’s County, according to The Washington Post. Also, police saw another sad statistic: an unusual number of children and babies being killed by a parent or caregiver, according to The Post.
Even though overall聽crime was down in 2014 in D.C. and in Prince George’s County, there were still no small number of homicides.聽D.C. had聽105 homicides聽compared to 104 in 2013聽and聽Prince George’s County had 54 compared to 56 in 2013.
D.C.聽began 2014 with a domestic homicide where a man killed his wife.
Of the聽54 homicides聽in Prince George’s County, 19 were domestic violence victims.聽But of those聽19聽victims, seven were less than聽4聽years old.
Montgomery County had more than double the number of homicides in 2014 than 2013.聽In 2013, there were聽eight but in 2014 there were聽18.
In Northern Virginia, Alexandria had four murders including Ruthanne Lodato a well-loved聽music teacher.聽Fairfax County had six as did聽Loudoun County.聽Also, Northern Virginia saw聽several domestic violence victims murdered in 2014.
