Metro GM pens letter 1 year after deadly L鈥橢nfant Plaza incident

WASHINGTON 鈥 One year after a deadly smoke incident at L鈥橢nfant Plaza, Metro says its new General Manager Paul Wiedefeld has written a letter to the public.

In the letter, Wiedefeld writes about steps Metro has taken to improve safety in the year since . More than 80 people were taken to hospitals after smoke filled a Metro train last January.

鈥溾.Metro has inspected and made repairs to the tunnel ventilation systems and provided new training for fan operations at the Rail Operations Control Center to ensure the system is used to its fullest potential, and that smoke can be cleared from stations and tunnels quickly and efficiently,鈥 Wiedefeld writes.

Wiedefeld鈥檚 letter will be featured in Monday鈥檚 Express newspaper.
