A man suffered life-threatening injuries Sunday after falling out of his kayak and being swept up in the Potomac River.
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue spokesperson Pete Piringer said the incident involved three men and unfolded聽near the Great Falls area. The group had self-rescued onto the Virginia shoreline.
First responders with the MCFRS and Fairfax County Fire and Rescue both reported to the scene around 2 p.m.
Of the three people who fell into the water, one of the men suffered life-threatening injuries and was unconscious at the time, Piringer said. The man was later resuscitated and聽transferred by boat to get medical care.
“We believe they were boating in and around the Great Falls and somehow got caught up in some hydraulics up in that area,” Piringer said. “Water’s very low, so it’s treacherous in some areas.”
An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
