A Northwood High School student聽is facing聽gun聽charges聽including聽possession of a firearm on school property following聽his arrest聽Friday morning聽after an聽altercation聽and聽, Montgomery County police said聽Friday afternoon in a聽statement.
The 17-year-old聽from聽Silver Spring聽was聽also charged with聽possessing聽a firearm without a serial number,聽having a聽handgun on聽a聽person, possession of a firearm by a minor and聽carrying a聽loaded handgun, police said.聽Charged as an adult, he聽was聽being held聽Friday聽in聽the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit聽in Rockville,聽where he awaits a bond hearing.聽Bethesda Today is not naming the student because he is a minor.
On Friday, police said聽officers were dispatched聽at roughly 8:20 a.m. for聽the聽report聽of聽a student with a gun at Northwood. The school is聽housed聽in聽the Charles W. Woodward High School building at 11211 Old Georgetown Road in Rockville while its Silver Spring campus undergoes reconstruction.
The caller聽reported that two students were involved in an聽altercation聽and a witness聽told聽school staff聽that one of the students was armed, the statement said.
Responding officers聽searched聽the 17-year-old and discovered a loaded 3D聽printed privately manufactured firearm, also known as a ghost gun, in his waistband, police said. The student was arrested without incident, according to police.
