NEW YORK (AP) 鈥� has canceled her previously postponed Las Vegas residency due to health challenges that leave her feeling 鈥渟wimmy headed鈥� 鈥� but has assured fans her ailments are treatable.
鈥淭he good news is I’m responding really well to meds and treatments and I’m improving every day,鈥� the 80-year-old country superstar said in a short video posted to her official Instagram account. 鈥淣ow the bad news is, it’s going to take me a little while before I’m up to stage-performance level because some of the meds and treatments make me a lit bit swimmy headed, as my grandma used to say.鈥�
鈥淎nd of course, I can鈥檛 be dizzy carrying around banjos, guitars, and such on five-inch heels 鈥� and you know that I鈥檓 going to be wearing them,鈥� she joked. 鈥淣ot to mention, all those heavy rhinestone outfits, the big hair, my big 鈥� uh, personality. Lord, those 鈥� that would make anybody swimmy headed!鈥�
She didn鈥檛 share too many details about her health but clarified that she鈥檚 always 鈥渉ad problems with my and that her immune system and digestive system 鈥済ot all out of whack over the past couple three years and they鈥檙e working real hard on rebuilding and strengthening those.鈥�
She also clarified that her doctors have assured her 鈥渢hat everything I have is treatable, so I’m going with that.鈥�
She said that she is still working on opening her museum and hotel in Nashville as well as 鈥淒olly: A True Original Musical,鈥� opening in New York later this year.
Parton’s previous health challenges
In September, Parton announced her first Las Vegas residency in 32 years was due to 鈥渉ealth challenges.鈥� She was scheduled to perform six shows at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace for 鈥淒olly: Live in Las Vegas鈥� in December, overlapping with Her dates were moved to this September, before being canceled on Monday.
鈥淒on鈥檛 worry about me quittin鈥� the business because God hasn鈥檛 said anything about stopping yet,鈥� she said at the time of the postponement. 鈥淏ut I believe he is telling me to slow down right now so I can be ready for more big adventures with all of you.鈥�
Last September, Parton also was unable to attend the announcement of a new ride at her due to health issues. 鈥淚 had a kidney stone that was causing me a lot of problems, turned out it鈥檇 given me an infection, and the doctor said, 鈥榊ou don鈥檛 need to be traveling right this minute, so you need a few days to get better,鈥欌�� Parton said in a video announcement at the time.
The following month, Parton to social media joking that she 鈥渁in鈥檛 dead yet,鈥� following public speculation about her health.
鈥淭here are just a lot of rumors flying around. But I figured if you heard it from me, you鈥檇 know that I was OK,鈥� she said in a two-minute video posted on Instagram. 鈥淚鈥檓 not ready to die yet. I don鈥檛 think God is through with me. And I ain鈥檛 done working.鈥�
Parton performs on occasion but hasn鈥檛 toured since her 鈥淧ure & Simple Tour鈥� ended in 2016.
