Trial set to begin in Md. trooper’s fatal shooting

UPPER MARLBORO, Md. – Jury selection is set to begin in the trial of a man accused of fatally shooting an off-duty Maryland state trooper in 2010.

Cyril Cornelius Williams of Seat Pleasant is accused of killing 24-year-old Trooper Wesley Brown, who had been working as a security guard at an Applebee’s restaurant in Forestville.

Jury selection in the case, which is being tried in Circuit Court for Prince George’s County in Upper Marlboro, begins Monday.

At the time of his murder, Brown was a 3 1/2 year veteran of the police force who had been assigned to the Forestville barracks. He was 24 and had just gotten engaged.

Brown was not in uniform at the time of the 12:40 a.m. shooting but had been wearing an armored vest. He was wearing a jacket that identified him as a police officer, Sheridan says.
