Unemployment fraud investigation leads to firings in D.C.

WASHINGTON — There is more fallout from the latest scandal to hit the D.C. government.

Several D.C. government employees have now been fired as a result of an investigation into unemployment fraud.

Ninety current employees have been placed on administrative leave amid allegations they collected hundreds of thousands of dollars in unemployment payments while working at D.C. government jobs, the Washington Post first reported.

The District’s attorney general says six of the the top ten most egregious offenders who collected fraudulent payments for more than a year work for D.C. public schools.
