Reportedly dangerous man found safe

WASHINGTON – A possibly dangerous man is off the streets after Rockville City Police picked up Clayton Mollenhoff at a medical treatment facility Friday morning.

Less than 24 hours beforehand, Takoma Park Police issued a release warning the public about Mollenhoff, 27, who had escaped from Washington Adventist Hospital.

He is now back at Washington Adventist Hospital to undergo an evaluation. A tip was called in alerting Rockville City Police to his location and an officer picked up Mollenhoff without incident.

“He was in good health, there were no injuries or incidents that we know of from the time that he escaped from the time we picked him up,” says Maj. Bob Rappaport.

Mollenhoff suffers from paranoia, is suicidal, has a history of violence, carries weapons, is a drug and alcohol user and is a continued escape risk, the Thursday release said. Police thought it prudent to warn the public of his status.

Mollenhoff also has extensive martial arts training, police say. Police initially said they believed he’d left the area following an exhaustive search by law enforcement and police dogs.
