WASHINGTON – There is trouble at one major entrance to D.C.

Drivers cannot cross the South Capitol Street Bridge, also known as the Frederick Douglass bridge.

The Department of Transportation opened the swing span on the bridge that crosses the Anacostia River early this morning as a test and then it would not close.

The closed bridge blocks off South Capitol Street in both directions.

Repairs are underway, but there is no estimate on how long they might take.
