WASHINGTON – A Georgetown staple where presidents and visitors have celebrated their own big nights is celebrating a milestone of it’s own. Martin’s Tavern is turning 80.

In 1933, William Martin opened his restaurant at Wisconsin Avenue and N Street, NW. Billy Martin is the third person in his family to own the historic tavern and is proud his family has kept it going.

Martin’s has served a number of big names over the years. And it’s rumored to be the place where President Kennedy proposed to Jackie in what’s now known as the restaurant’s proposal booth.
