WASHINGTON – Speeding appears to be a factor in a crash that killed a 4-year- old boy and injured his father and sister, according to Maj. Robert Brewer of the Prince George’s County police department.

“Preliminarily, speed does appear to be a factor,” Brewer told the media Thursday night, following the crash on Bladensburg Road at 37th Place in Cottage City, which is close to the District line.

Police are still investigating what happened, but say the father’s SUV swerved to avoid a speeding vehicle.

The SUV clipped a vehicle, struck a light pole, flipped and then hit a tree. The vehicle that was clipped stayed at the scene, according to PFC Nicole Hubbard.

The 4-year-old boy and his father were thrown from the SUV. The father and daughter, who was not thrown from the vehicle, sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

ABC7’s Tom Roussey’s was on the scene after the accident.

“We cover accidents a lot and this is one of the worst one’s I’ve seen,” Roussey told 海角社区app.

“It’s a miracle anyone walked away from this.”

Right after the crash, Bladensburg Road was closed in both directions.
