Nonprofit offers free sober rides on Halloween

WASHINGTON – A local nonprofit will offer free cab rides to make sure all ghouls and goblins make it home safe on Halloween.

Like other times of celebration, drunk drivers can be a menace on Halloween. To prevent partiers from getting behind the wheel if they’ve had too much to drink, the will offer free cab rides on the night of Oct. 31.

The rides will be available from 10 p.m. until 4 a.m. the following morning, Nov. 1, and rides will be free up to a $30 fare. You must be 21 or older and the number to call is 800-200-TAXI.

WRAP President Kurt Gregory Erickson says more than half of all U.S. traffic deaths during Halloween are caused by drunk drivers.

All calls for the WRAP service must originate in Montgomery and Prince George’s counties in Maryland; the cities of Rockville, Bowie, College Park, Gaithersburg, Greenbelt and Takoma Park in Maryland; the District of Columbia; Arlington, Fairfax, Prince William and Eastern Loudoun counties in Virginia; and the cities of Alexandria, Falls Church, Fairfax, Manassas and Manassas Park in Virginia.
