San Fran Chronicle won’t use ‘Skins name

WASHINGTON – In other Redskins’ name news, reports that the San Francisco Chronicle has decided it will no longer use the Redskins name.

“No announcement has been made, and it’s not known whether an announcement is coming. It’s possible, we’re told, that the change will be explained in a column,” reports Mike Florio.

It was only the latest development in controversy over a name that some say is insensitive and offensive to Native Americans.

On Tuesday in New York, Redskins team owner Daniel Snyder met with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.

Snyder has insisted he won’t change the team’s name. While Goodell Snyder earlier this year, saying the team name has a positive meaning, the commissioner that if one person is offended by the name, the league needs to be listening.

On Wednesday, NFL executives are with representatives of the Oneida Indian Nation, who say the name ‘Redskins’ is offensive and must be changed.
