WASHINGTON – The Naval Criminal Investigative Service will perform an internal review to determine whether its officers are adequately equipped and trained for emergencies like the massacre at the Washington Navy Yard.
A Navy official tells the September shootings, in which gunman Aaron Alexis killed 12 people before being shot dead, showed where NCIS may be vulnerable.
The station reports not all NCIS officers have body armor or vehicles with sirens, and not all carry the type of “long gun” used by many emergency officials.
The review is expected to encompass NCIS units around the world.
