PEPCO rate rises while cost may fall

WASHINGTON — Pepco customers in D.C. will see their bills go up and down at the same time.

Betty Anne Kane, chair of the D.C. Public Service Commission, explains that the commission granted Pepco a $23 million rate increase. That’s a fixed charge that’s not going away.

The good news, though, is that most of D.C.’s ratepayers may find that increase offset by something that does change: the actual cost of electricity.

Kane says for customers in the standard offer service, that rate is going down. So the total monthly bill may actually dip by as much as $6.
