DC transportation bill to get second hearing

WASHINGTON (AP) — A D.C. Council committee will hold a second public hearing on a bill that would consolidate the city government’s management of transportation.

Among other things, the bill from Democratic Councilmember Mary Cheh is intended to streamline the handling of parking tickets in the District of Columbia. Currently, three different agencies are involved in the parking ticket process.

It would also create a transit authority responsible for managing all the city-run transit options, including streetcars, Circulator buses and taxicabs.

The hearing is scheduled for Monday morning.
