Annapolis girl hopes America will hear her sing Sunday

WASHINGTON — A seven-year-old girl from Annapolis, Maryland hopes to make her聽national debut this weekend.

“I got into singing classes and stuff and then I did so much now I love it,”聽says Vivien Kaplan.

Recently, Kaplan stumbled upon Disney’s聽聽and made a last minute submission. Now she is one of 10聽finalists competing for some prime time airtime this weekend.

Her mom, Melanie Loughry, says from the age of two her daughter has been聽singing along with musicals and is not shy when it comes to performing.

The second grader has become somewhat of a star, for making it this far in the聽competition. “As more people in town learn about the contest, it has gotten聽more exciting for her,” Loughry says.

Recently, Vivien was flown to Los Angeles where she and the other finalists聽were filmed. Now voting is underway on the contest’s website, and the winner聽will see their version of the song aired during a Kohl’s commercial after the聽American Music Awards which airs Sunday.

Kaplan hopes it will be her.

“I wanna be the grand finalist ’cause it would be like a really big thing for聽me and I’d be really happy,” she says.
