WASHINGTON — A Prince George’s County firefighter was injured Saturday in a two-alarm townhouse fire in Suitland, Maryland.
The fire began around 11 a.m at a three-story residence on Apple Orchard Lane. Debris from the roof fell onto the firefighter, who had to be taken to University of Maryland R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center.
The firefighter, whose name was not released, is expected to survive.
A spokesman for the fire department said the fire caused $500,000 in damage to three town homes. The blaze appeared to be accidental and likely started on the back deck, fire officials said.
Meanwhile, another Prince George’s County firefighter was released from the hospital after being treated for serious burns from a fire on Thursday.
Zachary Proffen, 23, was burned as temperatures reached about 800 degrees at a burning apartment building in Laurel, Maryland.
It could be a while before he returns to duty.
