WASHINGTON 鈥� There鈥檚 been another guilty plea in a wide-ranging federal probe targeting lawmakers, lobbyists and liquor board officials in Prince George鈥檚 County.
On Friday afternoon, Anuj Sud, 39, of Hyattsville, pleaded guilty聽to taking cash in exchange for favorable votes while serving聽on the Prince George鈥檚 County liquor board. Sud entered his plea in U.S. District Court in Greenbelt.聽His sentencing is scheduled for April 5; Sud faces up to five years in prison.
According to court records, Sud, a lawyer who was appointed to the liquor board in 2015, would refer to payments as 鈥渨edding gifts,鈥� and in two cases voted favorably in return for bribes of $1,000 each.
Two Maryland state lawmakers were among those targeted by the federal corruption investigation. Former Prince George鈥檚 County Council member and State Delegate Will Campos pleaded guilty and faces sentencing in April. Another former Prince George鈥檚 County lawmaker, Michael Vaughn, has been charged with conspiracy and bribery and faces trial in February 2018.
