18-year-old arrested for leaving handgun unsecured, leading to toddler shooting herself, Prince George’s Co. police say

An 18-year-old in Prince George’s County has been arrested for leaving a handgun unsecured, which led to a toddler shooting herself in Bowie, Maryland, police said.

Prince George’s County police said it happened on Brookedge Court near Central Avenue around 4 p.m. Sunday.

According to authorities, detectives determined the child shot herself with an unsecured handgun leading to serious injuries.

Elijah Fauntleroy, 18, of Temple Hills, was arrested on Monday and charged with reckless endangerment and multiple firearms offenses for leaving the handgun unsecured, according to police.

As of Monday, the child remains in the hospital but is expected to make a full recovery, according to a news release.
