Fatal Manassas fire ruled arson, teen victim ID’d

WASHINGTON 鈥斅燗 Manassas teen and a 35-year-old man were killed in a house fire that investigators said was intentionally set this weekend, police said Monday.

Jose Javier Avalos, 17, died in the fire , said聽Jonathan Perok with the Prince William County Police Department.

County schools confirm Avalos went to Stonewall Jackson High School.

A third man found after the fire, wandering the streets and badly injured, is still receiving treatment. Investigators are waiting for the man’s condition to improve before interviewing him, Perok said.

“Based on the investigation, and the information聽we have at this point, we are considering this a double homicide,” Perok said.

Battalion Chief Thomas Jarmon with the fire marshal’s office said the fire spread, its location and an alert from a K-9 trained to identify accelerants all indicate the fire was intentionally set. Jarmon said he could not say where the fire started or where the victims were found inside the house to preserve the integrity of the investigation.
