Woodbridge HS football coach dies after collapsing during game

A high school football coach has died after collapsing during a game in Prince William County, Virginia, Friday night.

Fred Moore, 33, was a math teacher and defensive coordinator for Woodbridge High School. He was on the sidelines during the Vikings’ home game against Massaponax of Spotsylvania County.

there was seven minutes remaining in the third quarter when the game was stopped just before 9 p.m. for a “medical issue.”

Woodbridge Principal Heather Abney confirmed Moore’s death in a tweet, saying the school’s community was “heartbroken and devastated.”

The school has set up a website where people can for Moore’s family. Abney said a has been set up to help Moore’s family with expenses.

said that the school is planning a memorial service in honor of Coach Moore. They also report that his funeral will be held in his home state of Alabama.

Head coach Alex Urquhart told InsideNova that Moore was 鈥渁 great man鈥 and 鈥渓ike a brother.鈥

He added, 鈥淗e was a man that I would want my son to have as a teacher, mentor and coach. He was truly genuine and positive person.鈥

Moore began working in Woodbridge in 2020 after spending two years as a teacher in Marion, Arkansas, . He graduated from Troy University with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics in 2012.

The school district’s crisis team will be providing support for students and staff in the coming days, Abney said.
