Maryland falls to UNC 14-13 in OT in NCAA lacrosse title match

WASHINGTON — One day after the Maryland women鈥檚 lacrosse team was unable to capture its third straight national title against North Carolina, the team’s聽counterpart suffered the same fate. The Terrapins rallied from an early 4-0 deficit at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, but fell in overtime to the Tar Heels 14-13, depriving them of their first national title since 1975.

Maryland did not lead until Matt Rambo鈥檚 second goal of the game pushed them ahead 8-7 with 3:28 to play in the first half, but led 13-11 with under four minutes to play in regulation before coughing up the two-goal advantage. A penalty in the closing seconds of regulation put them a man up heading into overtime, but they could not capitalize.

The Terps have come close several times recently, finishing as national runners-up in 2011, 2012 and 2015, as well.
