Juventus captain felt like crying after Champions League comeback falls short against Galatasaray

TURIN, Italy (AP) 鈥 Juventus captain Manuel Locatelli felt like crying after seeing his team鈥檚 remarkable fightback fall just short against Galatasaray on Wednesday.

Trailing 5-2 after the first leg, Juventus went 3-0 up in the return match 鈥 despite playing almost the entire second half with 10 men following Lloyd Kelly鈥檚 sending-off 鈥 to take the game to extra time.

Galatasaray scored twice in extra time to lose 3-2 on the night but win 7-5 on aggregate.

Juventus fans applauded their team after the match despite getting eliminated.

鈥淚t almost makes me want to cry for how much we believed,鈥 Locatelli said. 鈥淚 think we gave our heart 鈥 and more.鈥

鈥淭hese are the kinds of matches,” he added, 鈥渢hat stay with you.鈥

Juventus defender Federico Gatti, who scored the team鈥檚 second goal, felt the qualification was thrown away last week.

鈥淚t鈥檚 frustrating because we reached extra time a bit drained,鈥 he said. 鈥淲e had really put the game back on track, but I鈥檒l say it again 鈥 we let it slip in the first leg. A tie like this simply can鈥檛 end that way.鈥
