TURIN, Italy (AP) 鈥� Juventus captain Manuel Locatelli felt like crying after seeing his team鈥檚 remarkable fightback fall just short against Galatasaray on Wednesday.
Trailing 5-2 after the first leg, Juventus went 3-0 up in the return match 鈥� despite playing almost the entire second half with 10 men following Lloyd Kelly鈥檚 sending-off 鈥� to take the game to extra time.
Galatasaray scored twice in extra time to lose 3-2 on the night but win 7-5 on aggregate.
Juventus fans applauded their team after the match despite getting eliminated.
鈥淚t almost makes me want to cry for how much we believed,鈥� Locatelli said. 鈥淚 think we gave our heart 鈥� and more.鈥�
鈥淭hese are the kinds of matches,” he added, 鈥渢hat stay with you.鈥�
Juventus defender Federico Gatti, who scored the team鈥檚 second goal, felt the qualification was thrown away last week.
鈥淚t鈥檚 frustrating because we reached extra time a bit drained,鈥� he said. 鈥淲e had really put the game back on track, but I鈥檒l say it again 鈥� we let it slip in the first leg. A tie like this simply can鈥檛 end that way.鈥�
