LAUSANNE, Switzerland (AP) 鈥 Women鈥檚 soccer won a gender equality award from the International Olympic Committee on Monday.
Kang, who owns French powerhouse OL Lyonnes, Washington Spirit in the United States and London City Lionesses in England, was named the European regional winner in the IOC鈥檚 .
The Olympic body鈥檚 citation said the American businesswoman 鈥渉as championed a vision of sustainable, independent women鈥檚 sport built on the principle that 鈥榚qual means equal results.鈥欌
鈥淜ang is strengthening the women鈥檚 football ecosystem and advancing gender equality, representation and professional standards across the sport.”
The global winner of the IOC鈥檚 annual awards was Abhijit Bhattacharya, the former captain of India鈥檚 men鈥檚 volleyball team, who created a 400-team community league in rural Assam.
Bhattacharya, the IOC said, 鈥減artnered with UNICEF to deliver sport-based programs addressing adolescent leadership, gender equality, girls鈥 education and broader social development outcomes in rural communities.鈥
