WASHINGTON — Fairfax County鈥檚 Commonwealth attorney will present the evidence in the police shooting death of John Geer to a special grand jury, nearly two years after the 46-year-old was shot and killed in the doorway of his Springfield, Virginia home.
Ray Morrogh tells 海角社区app in an email Thursday that his office is working to coordinate the schedule聽
鈥淚 hope to have the grand jury complete its work by the end of the summer if at all possible,鈥 he writes.
The announcement comes just a day after the Fairfax County Board approved a civil settlement with Geer鈥檚 family. The will go to Geer鈥檚 teenage daughters.
Geer鈥檚 family members say they still want to see the police officer who shot him prosecuted.
Geer was talking to other police officers in 2013 when Officer Adam Torres shot him. Torres says he saw Geer鈥檚 hands flinch toward his waist. The other officers on the scene say they did not see that.
On Tuesday, 聽Sharon Bulova, chairman聽for the Fairfax County Board, said she believed police department discipline for Torres could be finalized within weeks.
Torres聽has been on administrative duty.
