The crowds were out for the 34th annual 17th Street High Heel Race in D.C.
The popular event in Dupont Circle was canceled last year because of the pandemic, and attendees and participants said they were happy to be back out and celebrating.
鈥淪ince COVID, we haven鈥檛 really had much time to spend together. Seeing everyone come together, from everywhere, race, age it鈥檚 a great feeling. Brings back America like it used to be,鈥 said Lloyd who was dressed as a 鈥渨itch with a b.鈥
D.C. police Chief Robert Contee joined the festivities, as well, and told 海角社区app it鈥檚 a must-attend event.
鈥淚t鈥檚 a wonderful night on 17th Street. Everybody is out having a good time enjoying our city鈥檚 culture,” Contee said.
The night kicked off with a parade of outfits including French aristocrats, bumblebee and nuns, as people lined the streets snapping pictures on their phones.
At 8:30 p.m., with a countdown from Mayor Muriel Bowser, the high-heel race began as onlookers cheered.
Volunteer Alex Catanese said it鈥檚 a wonderful example of local pride.
鈥淭his is an amazing community here in D.C., and we need to get out and celebrate as much as we can the amount of pride we have here,” Catanese said.
