Women might want to reconsider what they think they know about their health and about what puts them most at risk, according to a national survey from a health care company.

鈥94% of women failed the and one of the striking things is that there are some misconceptions about women鈥檚 health,鈥 said , chief medical officer of MDVIP.

MDVIP is a company that operates a network of doctors.

鈥淲omen are more worried about cancer and arthritis than heart disease,鈥 Klemes said. 鈥淣ine in 10 women didn鈥檛 know that heart disease is the number one killer of women, and it鈥檚 deadlier than all of the other cancers combined in women.鈥

  • 8 in 10 don鈥檛 know lung cancer is the deadliest cancer among women.
  • 8 in 10 don鈥檛 know the Pap test only screens for cancer of the cervix.
  • 7 in 10 don鈥檛 know drinking alcohol increases breast cancer risk.
  • 8 in 10 have never been screened for inflammatory markers, which can identify risk or presence of heart disease.
  • 6 in 10 have never had a mental health screening (59%), and most have never discussed depression (64%) or stress/anxiety (52%) with their doctors.

鈥淭hese are all things we need to be talking about,鈥 Klemes said in regard to the mental health issues and evaluations.

Klemes also advises women to know the numbers of their cholesterol, blood pressure, blood sugar and bone density.

鈥淭wenty to 34-year-olds don鈥檛 usually get a聽, their bone density checked, but if you have some family history or have another medical condition, you may need to get it checked at a younger age,鈥 she said.

The quiz finds that nearly a third of women felt rushed during appointments, not taken seriously regarding their concerns, or were overall dissatisfied with their experience.

鈥淟ess than one in three were comfortable talking about things like depression or incontinence or a sexual dysfunction,鈥 Klemes said.

鈥淎t MDVIP, we feel it鈥檚 critical to screen for those topics to open the door to discuss these things. So you need to find a physician who is open to talking about everything, and hopefully, asking you those questions proactively.鈥

Younger women, 20-to-34-years old, are the least engaged and satisfied with the health care available to them according to the quiz.

鈥淵ou need to advocate for yourself. You need to speak up,鈥 Klemes said.
