WASHINGTON – University of Maryland students received an alert Friday afternoon following an attempted armed robbery at a nearby Metro station.
Metro says two men tried to steal a backpack in a stairwell of the College Park station’s parking garage around 1 p.m.
The victim says one of the suspect’s had a gun, but nobody was hurt and nothing was taken.
After searching the area, a person matching the suspect’s description was found on the platform for the Metro station about an hour later.
He was arrested after a brief struggle and a BB gun was recovered.
Students received an all clear shortly before 2:30 p.m.
Metro Transit Police are still investigating
